Department of Education Policy and Leadership

The Department of Education Policy and Leadership was established in 2010. As an important part of the University, we contribute actively to programmes at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

We prepare students to enter the teaching profession. We educate them in the personal, interpersonal, and social dimensions of teachers. We prepare leaders for roles in principalship, policy planning and analysis, professional development, and school improvement. We inspire students to think critically and ethically by exploring good schools and good societies.

We are very involved with Hong Kong’s education reform, the success of which hinges on the sound preparation of teachers, the development of leaders, and close collaboration with local schools. Many of our research and development projects serve and support teachers and leaders.

We enjoy connections with local, mainland Chinese and overseas universities, and educational institutions, as well as engage in academic exchange, community service, and professional consultancy. The Department has strong links with The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust Asia Pacific Center for Leadership and Change. It is our vision that the Department will become a leading center for innovative research and professional development of teachers, principals, and educators in Hong Kong, the mainland China, the Asia-Pacific Region, and the wider world community.
